All new, all you: our newsletter for people of colour

As you know, we were thrilled to be nominated for a BSME Award (along with British Vogue and BBC Good Food) this June. This made us brainstorm as a team: how could we get more personal with you guys bringing more of what you love?  So we decided it was time to bring all our news only to your inbox. Yep, we’re now exclusively a newsletter so tell your friends to sign up. You’ll hear from us twice a week on diverse topics from fashion and beauty to tech and personal development.

This dreamy collab Chinese designer Susan Fang has done with & Other Stories. Floral, ethereal pieces that are perfect for evening dates, weddings and even the casual bride.

  • Silverist launches for gray hair: much needed brand launched by Evelyn Wang with a shampoo, conditioner and serum so you can start skipping those dye appointments.

  • Bringing you the real on hair botox: yep, it's being recommended by professionals as great for textured hair. But Dr. Kemi Fabusiwa says “It’s a marketing term, and not a medical procedure involving the use of botulinum toxin,” and it’s actually “a deep conditioning treatment that can help to replenish lost moisture, repair damaged hair and reduce frizz.”

  • Foundation News: Patrick Ta Beauty have released their Major Skin Hydra-Luxe Luminous Skin Perfecting Foundation and it is available in 30 shades including deeper shades. You can see Patrick using the product on a melanin-rich model here

  • Launches Down Under: Tower28 has launched in Australia and New Zealand. Amy Liu founded the brand after struggling to find products for sensitive skin and eczema. Sensitive skin is a common concern for both darker skin tones and East Asian skin so we’re always on the lookout for brands winning the sensitive skin game.

Trending over the summer was Tam Kaur’s Buy Yourself the Damn Flowers: The self-love guide to growing, healing and learning to put yourself first which is also available on Spotify as an audiobook. Perfect for all stages of life and just makes you feel better: whether you're looking to take back your time or going through a breakup or divorce. The queen of solo dating, Kaur’s personal dev videos blew up on YouTube this year and it's hard to believe sometimes that she’s just 23 years old.

September is the perfect time to explore rustic home decor whether you’re going into autumn or your in sunny weather by the beach. To bring you the best of rustic style, we spoke to interior designer Feliciana Dalley. Dalley is the Founder of FÉLIE, an interior design studio and design brand who have perfect Afroluxe inspo in their home decor collection. She tells us how to use Afroluxe elements to start getting rustic-ready.

What is Afroluxe?

Afroluxe is a fusion of African aesthetics and luxury which can add a unique and vibrant touch to your home decor. A perfect example is our Sheba collection representing our Nigerian heritage: heavy on texture, depth and storytelling. They tell a different kind of narrative, one that highlights the craftsmanship, luxury and creativity of African culture.

How can we start getting our home rustic-ready?

  1. Ground the scene first with the larger pieces: Look for furniture pieces with a distressed or weathered finish. Even if it’s a small side table, this adds a vintage and rustic feel to your space.

  2. Introduce natural elements to bring that organic-outside feeling: wood, stone, and wicker are classic rustic elements. Use wooden bowls, stone vases or wicker baskets to add warmth and a strong emphasis on texture.

  3. An earthy colour palette warms the room: Introduce wooden elements and rich colours like rust, burnt orange, deep brown, and olive green. You can go further with accents of vibrant colours like burgundy, mustard yellow, or deep blue to create that visual contrast and create beautiful vignettes.

  4. Layer your textiles: Layer textiles to create a comfy, warm and inviting atmosphere. If you live in a warmer place, linen and cotton throws are perfect. For cooler weather, go for chunky knit blankets, sheepskin rugs, and flannel pillows.

  5. Start styling: Incorporate autumn leaves, pine cones, and branches into your decor. I love styling the dining table with textured ornaments or you can create a centerpiece using potpourri to activate those deeper rustic scents. We love Cedar & Vanilla.

  6. Finish off with handmade pieces for that personal feel: DIY pieces are so in, they instantly spark conversations and draws the eye to special moments in your decor. Even if it's a handmade bowl for your keys, it can make all the difference.
